No change in ranking at the top of fabless semiconductor ranking
🟦Q1 2022 Fabless Semiconductor Ranking
According to TrendForce, the world’s top 10 fabless semiconductor companies increased their revenue in the first quarter of 2022 by 44% year-on-year to $39.4 billion (about 5 trillion yen). The top 1-3 companies, Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Broadcom, are all U.S. companies. The rankings of 1st to 3rd place have not changed from the previous year.
Fabless manufacturers of data center and automotive chips exhibited high growth rates. Companies developing consumer chips in preparation for a drop in consumption are looking to enter HPC, servers, data centers, and automobiles to reduce risk.

Compared to Q1 2021, the ranking has changed due to mergers and acquisitions of fabless companies.
4th AMD ⇔ 5th Meditech
AMD completed its acquisition of Xilinx, the seventh-largest fabless company last year. The addition of Xilinx sales resulted in a year-over-year growth of 71%. It overtook Taiwan’s MediaTek to move up to fourth place.
No. 6 Marvel ⇔ No. 7 No. 8 Novatec Realtek
Marvel acquired network semiconductor company Innovium in 2021. This boosted data center revenue, resulting in 72% year-over-year growth in revenue. As a result, it overtook two fabless companies in Taiwan to take sixth place. Novatek display driver and Ethernet chip Realtek grew 38% and 27%, but below average for fabless companies as a whole.
9th 10th Will Semiconductor Cirrus Logic
Xilinx was acquired by AMD and Dialog by Renesas Electronics and disappeared from the rankings. Instead, China’s Will Semiconductor and U.S. audio semiconductor company CirrusLogic added to the Top 10 rankings. China’s Will owns Omnivision, a CMOS image sensor. Affected by the smartphone market, sales fell 9% year-on-year, but ranked ninth.
