🟦Partnership between Indian Semiconductor and Japan

Japan companies cooperate to build India's first semiconductor plant

🟦 Partnership of companies Japan India’s first semiconductor factory

Vedanta, which plans to build India’s first semiconductor factory, has begun partnering with Japan companies. Vedanta is a joint venture with Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. to plan semiconductor production in the western Indian state of Gujarat. We have already signed a memorandum of understanding with Gujarat, where Modi once served as state premier.

We have announced that we have signed memorandums of understanding with about 10 Japan semiconductor-related companies. We have not disclosed who signed the memorandum of understanding with or the specific details.

  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment related companies in Japan
    • Tokyo Electron
    • disco
    • SCREEN
    • Lasertec
    • Tokyo Seimitsu

🟦 India’s long-awaited attraction to semiconductor factories

Bedanda plans to start building a plant in 2022 and start mass production of semiconductors by 2026. We plan to produce older generation process of 28nm~65nm. The total investment amount is 1.5 trillion rupees (about 2.8 trillion yen), and it is expected to create about 100,000 jobs.

The Indian semiconductor market was $27.2 billion (about ¥3.8 trillion) in 2021 and is estimated to reach $63 billion (about ¥8.7 trillion) by 2026. India consumes a large amount of semiconductors, but mainly due to infrastructure issues, it lagged behind China and Taiwan in terms of domestic production of semiconductors. The establishment of a semiconductor factory is India’s long-cherished wish, and the Indian government has decided to invest a total of 760 billion rupees (1.2 trillion yen) in the semiconductor industry over six years.

🟦Summary

10 Japan companies cooperate in the construction of the first semiconductor factory long-awaited by the Indian government

Due to the influence of the US policy toward China, it is difficult for Japan companies to export semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China. I understand the feelings of Japan companies that expect India to be.
