Chinese GPU Company Jingjia Wei Announces Development of Next-Generation GPUs
🟩 Jingjia Wei Announces Development of “JM9” Series
Changsha Jingjia Microelectronics is China’s first GPU company, founded in 2006. In 2014, we succeeded in developing China’s first GPU chip, the JM5 series (65nm), which was also adopted for military aircraft of the People’s Liberation Army of China. In 2018, we developed the second-generation JM7 (28nm) series, and we are currently developing the JM9 series of next-generation GPUs.
What is the current level of strength of Chinese GPU manufacturers?
🟩 At this stage, nVIDIA is 4~5 years behind
The JM9 series GPUs will be launched in 2022. The performance targets the nVIDIA product level in 2017~2018. This will be the equivalent of the GTX1080 from the GTX1050 in the GTX10 series, the pascal architecture two generations before nVIDIA. The process being adopted has not been made public, but it seems that a process older than nVIDIA’s 16nm is being adopted.
🟩Summary
Chinese GPU company Jingjia Micro’s strength is 4~5 years behind GPU giant nVIDIA
There are also geopolitical risks, and China’s domestic semiconductor development is progressing. Currently, it is 4 to 5 years late, but development is progressing steadily. By the way, the current Japan does not have GPU technology that is 4 to 5 years behind.
