🟩What are the TOP500 and Green500 rankings?

TOP500

The TOP500 is a project to compete for the calculation speed of supercomputers and announce the ranking of the top 500. Since 1993, the latest list has been published twice a year. The calculation speed is measured using LINPACK, which is one of the benchmark tests.

Green500

The Green500 divides each benchmark value of the TOP500 by its power consumption, and evaluates power-efficient high-performance calculations. It has been published twice a year since November 2007.

🟩 “Tomitake” from 2019, “MN-3” from 2020

“Tomitake” has been defending the top since its first appearance in 2019, and is still overwhelming the second place with a performance difference of about three times.

On the other hand, “MN-3” took the first place on its first appearance in 2020, and once it was deprived of that position, it fell back to second place. As of June 2021, it has returned to No. 1 due to software improvements.
