🟦 Toshiba and ROHM collaborate on power semiconductors

Toshiba and ROHM have declared their intention to commence collaborative production of power semiconductors. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry(METI) will provide compensation of up to 129.4 billion yen. Toshiba will handle the production of silicon power semiconductors, while ROHM will oversee the production of silicon carbide power semiconductors. Additionally, they will exchange the semiconductors manufactured by each other.

🟦 Co-production to increase cost competitiveness

Power semiconductors play a crucial role in enhancing the energy efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs) and industrial equipment. Manufacturers both in Japan and abroad are engaged in fierce competition in this domain. Both companies will engage in joint production to expand production scale and enhance cost competitiveness.

ROHM boasts strength in the automotive industry, whereas Toshiba has a diverse customer base, spanning fields such as electric power. Our strategy involves marketing silicon carbide power semiconductors, produced by ROHM, under the Toshiba brand to cater to a wide range of customers.

🟦Summary

Toshiba and ROHM have declared their intention to initiate joint production of power semiconductors, supported by government subsidies of up to 129.4 billion yen. The collaborative production aims to scale up manufacturing and boost cost competitiveness.

If the standardization of power semiconductors progresses through joint production, there is a possibility that the compatibility and efficiency of EVs and industrial equipment will improve.
