🟦AMD acquires network semiconductor company Pensand
AMD announced that it will acquire network semiconductor company Pensando Systems for $19.2400 billion. Pensand CEO Prem Jayne and approximately 350 employees will be integrated into the AMD Data Center Solutions Group. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022.
Pensand Systems
Founded in 2017, Pesand uses distributed computing to support IT infrastructures that are moving toward “software-defined.” Former Cisco CEO John Chambers is chairman of the board. It has amassed an impressive number of customers in a short period of time, including cloud and enterprise customers.

🟦 Smart NIC Capture
Pesand has a platform for data center network technology. Virtualization, storage, networking, and security processes can be offloaded from the CPU, reducing power consumption while improving performance. We are developing an accelerator called a so-called smart NIC (NIC: network interface card). Since smart NICs are often used in FPGAs, they also have a high affinity with Xilinx, an FPGA company acquired by AMD.
