🟦To revive Japan’s domestic semiconductor industry, the Advanced Semiconductor Research Center has been opened.

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has recently established the Advanced Semiconductor Research Center (SFRC). SFRC is expected to become a core hub for fostering open innovation in advanced semiconductors through the continuous promotion of research and development, construction of shared pilot lines, social implementation, and human resource development.

🟦 Securing semiconductor technology in Japan

The significance of semiconductors is growing, and it’s crucial to safeguard semiconductor technology and expedite research and development in response to trends like DX and GX. Aligned with the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s policy, it’s imperative to secure semiconductor technology in Japan and expedite research and development.

SFRC will conduct research and development focusing on five priority issues:

  • Establishment of basic FET technology and structural technology for 2nm generation GAA structures.
  • Development of cutting-edge devices and materials beyond the 2nm generation.
  • Performance enhancement through 3D integration technology.
  • State-of-the-art SoC design
  • Environmental Impact Assessment and Greening of Semiconductor Manufacturing

🟦Summary

Amid the imperative to safeguard semiconductor technology and expedite R&D, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) founded the Advanced Semiconductor Research Center (SFRC). SFRC is shaping the future of semiconductor technology by addressing five priority issues, ranging from 2nm generation GAA structures to state-of-the-art SoC designs.

SFRC may collaborate with Lapidas for 2nm processes and TSMC for 3D integration technology. We anticipate that SFRC will enhance its collaboration with companies in the development and practical application of cutting-edge SoC design and AI chips.
