🟦 Also in the spotlight of ASML Dutch EMS company Newways expands into Malaysia — a new base to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem

Newways Electronics, a Dutch electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company, has officially opened a new manufacturing facility dedicated to semiconductor assembly in Selangor, Malaysia. The new plant will provide highly reliable and high-precision products such as modules, cables, and microelectronics to semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturers such as ASML and precision electronics companies.

From the start, the plant created more than 200 jobs and strengthened its ability to respond to customers in the Asian market. As part of the global supply chain, we are able to fulfill orders from industry leaders such as ASML, ASMi, Besi, and Thermo Fisher.

🟦 Why did you decide to expand into Malaysia? What is the strategic background?

This expansion is due to Malaysia’s geographical advantages and policy support. Malaysia is located in the center of ASEAN, with easy access to Asian markets, and the government has taken extensive measures to attract foreign investment. Under the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), we are actively supporting investment in the manufacturing industry.

In addition, the “Soft Landing Program” provided by the State of Selangor supports the establishment of a business even before entering the market, as well as legal and human resources consulting and temporary work bases. Newways was also the first company to take advantage of the scheme, and Malaysia was chosen as its first manufacturing base in Asia because of the institutional benefits and the expected growth in demand.

🟦 Summary

Newways of the Netherlands has opened an advanced manufacturing facility in Malaysia and is strengthening its production and technology deployment in the region with customers such as ASML. While building a system to respond to the Asian market, we will utilize the support measures of the Malaysian government to strengthen supply chains and promote human resource development.

Since the coronavirus, “supply chain diversification” has become an important issue in the global manufacturing industry, and Southeast Asia has become a viable option for the “China+1” strategy to avoid dependence on China. New Ways’ entry into the market has been on this trend.
