🟦 Intel’s Meteor Lake development delays
There is a delay in the production of GPUs for Intel’s next-generation client CPU Meteor Lake. Meteor Lake is not a single-die SoC, but consists of chiplets that integrate multiple dies into the board. As for GPU die production, TSMC originally planned to start a 3nm process in the second half of 2022. However, due to design and process validation issues, it was delayed to the first half of 2023.
🟦Impact on TSMC’s 3nm process mass production
TSMC was expected to expand mass production of its 3nm process in 2022, but there will be delays. The first customers of TSMC 3nm were said to be Apple and Intel. From 2022 to 2023, only Apple, which plans to produce the M series and A17 Bionic, will be the 3nm customer. In view of this, TSMC decided to delay the expansion of production so as not to overrun capacity.
