Infineon adds XENSIV TMR magnetic sensors for high-sensitivity and automotive safety

企業分析

Infineon Technologies is expanding its XENSIV magnetic-sensing portfolio with tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors. The company positions TMR as a complement to Hall, GMR and AMR devices, offering high sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio for position and current sensing.

A wider design window

Higher sensitivity can support smaller magnets and accurate parameter extraction without a bandwidth penalty. It also gives designers more tolerance for a larger air gap and mechanical variation. These characteristics are relevant to gaming interfaces, wearables, automotive systems and industrial equipment.

Integrated signal quality

Infineon highlights its proprietary Vortex structure and monolithic CMOS-plus-TMR integration. The company says the approach improves linearity, cross-field robustness and signal quality. In a production system, that integration can reduce the effort needed to condition the sensor signal and maintain consistent performance.

Automotive safety options

Automotive-qualified devices are designed according to ISO 26262. A single-die option targets ASIL D fail-safe designs, while dual-die devices can support up to 2× ASIL D fail-operational architectures. The portfolio therefore extends beyond compact consumer applications into safety-conscious position sensing.

Takeaway

Infineon’s TMR expansion is less about replacing one magnetic-sensing technology than about giving engineers another optimized choice. High sensitivity, air-gap tolerance and safety-oriented variants make XENSIV TMR worth evaluating when a design needs compact magnets, low power or functional-safety headroom.
