onsemi has signed a landmark supply agreement with Volkswagen, the world’s second-largest automaker, to provide a full power box solution for next-generation electric vehicles (EVs). The multi-year agreement makes onsemi a key supplier for the next-generation traction inverters that are part of Volkswagen’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).
This full power box solution offers integrated modules for all power levels, up to low-power traction inverters.

A unique power box solution based on onsemi’s EliteSiC M3e MOSFETs significantly reduces energy losses and can handle more power in a smaller package. Three integrated half-bridge modules mounted on the cooling channel effectively manage heat and improve system efficiency. This will allow EVs to travel longer distances on a single charge.
In addition, onsemi is establishing a new SiC manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic to establish its supply chain advantage. The establishment of the plant will enable onsemi to quickly integrate its manufacturing processes, strengthen Volkswagen’s supply chain, and improve logistics.
