Mitsubishi Electric announced that it will build a new plant in the Fukuoka area to strengthen the production of power semiconductors that will support the realization of a decarbonized society.
🟦 Mitsubishi Electric invests 10 billion yen to build a new plant! Responding to the growing demand for power semiconductors
Mitsubishi Electric will construct a new plant scheduled to start operations in October 2026 at its Power Device Plant in Fukuoka City. The company plans to invest 10 billion yen in this plant to consolidate the existing production lines at the Fukuoka base and introduce automation technology to improve production efficiency by 20%.
In the Fukuoka area, we invested 4.5 billion yen in 2022 to start operation of a development and prototype building, and we are improving the speed of development by consolidating prototyping and evaluation functions. It has been designated by Fukuoka Prefecture as a “Green Asia International Strategic Comprehensive Special Zone” and offers preferential measures such as corporate tax credits.
🟦 100 billion yen investment in the Kumamoto area and Kyushu overall strategy
In addition to initiatives in the Fukuoka area, Mitsubishi Electric is also making large-scale investments in Kumamoto Prefecture. Kikuchi City is constructing a new plant for 200 millimeter wafers using silicon carbide (SiC) with high energy-saving performance, and the operation schedule has been brought forward by five months to November 2025. The total investment in the Kumamoto area, including the new plant and the expansion of the 150mm wafer line in Koshi, amounts to 100 billion yen.
