🟦 Malaysia becomes a hub for the semiconductor industry! What is Arm’s aim in Malaysia?
Arm is partnering with the Malaysian government to support the growth of the semiconductor industry by:
Provision of semiconductor design technology
Arm’s “Arm Compute Subsystem (CSS)” will be introduced to local companies to enable high-value-added IC design.
Strengthening human resource development
We will train 10,000 semiconductor engineers and strengthen the country’s technological base.
Strategic Investments
The Malaysian government will invest approximately 37.5 billion yen in Arm over 10 years to support the development of the semiconductor industry.
In particular, Malaysia, which has strengths in the “back-end process” of semiconductors, is trying to evolve into a more competitive international player by working on the “front-end process”.
🟦 Why Malaysia? Background and Aim
Since the 1970s, Malaysia has worked with companies such as Intel and Texas Instruments to gain experience in the semiconductor industry. However, until now, the focus has mainly been on the “post-process”, which is the final stage of the manufacturing process. The partnership aims to further strengthen the country’s industrial base by utilizing Arm’s technology and focusing on semiconductor design (front-end process).
In addition, with the advent of the AI era, the demand for advanced semiconductor technology is growing rapidly. By incorporating Arm’s technology, Malaysia aims to establish a key position in the development and supply of AI chips and become a hub for the semiconductor supply chain in Southeast Asia.
🟦 Summary
With the partnership between Arm and the Malaysian government, the country’s semiconductor industry is taking the next step. The main objective of this partnership is to train 10,000 human resources with advanced IC design skills with technical support from Arm, and to promote the growth of the semiconductor industry as a whole.
There are many excellent engineers in Malaysia, and we have a solid track record in the semiconductor field. There is no doubt that this partnership with Arm will further strengthen the country’s technological capabilities by expanding from “back-end processes” to “front-end processes.”
