Major players in the automotive industry, led by Analog Devices (ADI), have announced the formation of the OpenGMSL Association. The goal is to create an open standard for SerDes standards (serializers/deserializers) for high-speed video and data transmission required for automotive cameras, displays, and other applications.

OpenGMSL is based on ADI’s Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) technology, and plans are made to require certification testing and multi-vendor compatibility in the future. More than 22 companies, including Denso, Qualcomm, Hyundai Mobis, and GlobalFoundries, are participating in the association, which aims to ensure interoperability across the entire automotive ecosystem.
